ROADM is one of the key network elements in WDM Optical Network, which is the key technology to solve the electronic bottleneck problem in the traditional network node.Firstly, in this thesis the structure of the ROADM based on dual fiber collimator is designed and the working principle of the ROADM is analyzed. We use MATLAB to complete design software about ROADM based on the optical fiber collimator. Meanwhile, we design an experimental ROADM setup based on dual fiber collimator and study its performance characteristics. The experimental data are analyzed. The ROADM prototype has passed inspection by Zhejiang Electronic Information Products Testing Institute.Secondly, in order to overcome the practical operability of the device, in theory, we propose a novel ROADM based on the four-fiber collimator and thin film filter, applying discrete optical component technology. Four ports, including input port, drop port, add port and output port, are arranged on the same side of ROADM. Simulation analysis to the designed ROADM, as well as transmission performance in networking, is performed by Optisystem. The results show that the ROADM design is reasonably practicable to meet the requirements of the transmission in MAN. Meanwhile, experimental system solutions about ROADM based on four-fiber collimator is designed. We also analyze the experimental data.Finally, an exploratory research about ROADM based on four-fiber collimator is carried out. We put forward a novel practical design which makes ROADM based on four-fiber collimator miniaturized, which has an important guiding significance to the practical application to the device.
