With the high-speed development of information technology, people’s demands to information network increasingly trend to high speed and high precision. Severe form poses challenges to traditional China telecom broadband network, forcing traditional access network to transit. Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) is a point to multiple-point optical access network which uses the tree topology configuration to supply multi-service transition with Ethernet signal form. EPON is a combination of several best technologies and the network structure. Because of its simple maintenance and characteristics such as saving fiber resources, high bandwidth, high performance-cost ratio, and etc, EPON technology plays a more and more important role in optical access network, and will maintain a competitive advantage in the future for a long time.Firstly, several main access ways of broadband access network are introduced in this thesis. Based on comparing three kinds of fiber to the home technologies (EPON, GPON and P2P-Ethernet), the advantages of EPON technology is stated. Secondly, the EPON network structure, working principle and key technologies of EPON network are expounded, and several mature EPON network modes are analyzed. Finally, the EPON network design and planning are studied and discussed in this thesis. Based on the analysis and comparison of the three engineering examples, the applying scene and engineering effect of FTTN, FTTB and FTTH in actual construction are summarized.
