With the rapid development of information and communications technology, wirelessnetworks become more and more important in daily lives. The inevitable trend of the futurenetwork development is the interoperability among the networks, and applications trends tomobile and pervasive. Currently, network shows increasingly prominent heterogeneous, thedevelopment of network systems become more and more complex and business needs becomemore and more stringent. How to protect the business QoS of heterogeneous wireless networkenvironment has become a priority issue. This paper studies on heterogeneous wirelessnetwork QoS guarantee, proposes a heterogeneous wireless network architecture model anddesigns a cross-layer QoS guarantee collaborative awareness method based on the model.First, the paper combines the development status of current network and the trend offuture network, bases on the cognitive network and cross-layer design technology, proposes aheterogeneous wireless networks coexist model and cognitive nodes (CNode) structure,which is a part of the model. The model is the framework foundation of the cross-layercollaborative awareness method.Then, the paper analysis the major difficulties in heterogeneous wireless network QoSguarantee and the existing QoS guarantee method in-depth. Using the heterogeneous wirelessnetwork model and the CNode structure, designs a cross-layer collaborative awarenessmethod for the heterogeneous wireless network QoS guarantee. The method is based on thecross-layer design idea, considers the TCP/IP network protocol each layer information tobuild a global network utility function. The method could aware the current heterogeneouswireless network and QoS requirements all the time to adjust adaptive.Finally, the paper extends the NS2network simulation software, designs a WiMAX andUMTS interconnnect simulation network environment, experimental verifications the QoSguarantee cross-layer collaborative awareness method.
