With the development and diversification of wireless network technologies, the wireless communication terminal is evolved in the direction of multi-mode one and the heterogeneous wireless network convergence and cross-layer design have become a hot research area. As a strong support of theoretical research and technological development, efficient and accurate simulation of multiple heterogeneous wireless networks and cross-layer algorithm is an urgent issue to be addressed.Based on an NSFC funded project and the widely used discrete-event network simulation technology, the thesis proposes a feasible simulation solution for the cross-layer simulation in heterogeneous wireless network environment.Firstly, the research background and contents are briefed. Then basic techniques and simulation requirements are introduced. Following a description of the application of discrete-event simulation technology to the network simulation, detailed description and analysis are provided of NS2 functionarities. According to the stated theory and technology fundamentals, an NS2-based heterogeneous network cross-layer simulation system is presented. Key techniques of heterogeneous network cross-layer simulation are proposed, including design methodology of multi-mode mobile node and its detailed design and code integration, design of cross-layer simulation modules, cross-layer parameter extraction and processing, and the implementation of cross-layer simulation program. Finally, the proposed simulation techniques are verified with the designed simulation system. Specific algorithms are simulated and analyzed under the scenarios of heterogeneous network convergence and cross-layer design.
