Game Theory Newsgathering Conflict Perspective

Game Theory was born in the1920s. As a branch of applied mathematics, it has been widely used in many social scientific fields like psychology, political science, economics and linguistics, etc. Accordingly, the experts even assert that Game Theory may develop into a universal theory to study all the behaviors of human. The focus of Game Theory is on the influence that the concept, thoughts and strategy selection of the game subject will exert on the entire game results, which exactly corresponds to the essential characteristic of news interview conflict.With the transformation of Chinese society and the variation of ecological environment of media, journalists are confronted with an increasingly complex environment and unprecedented challenges. The competition of media market is becoming intense; therefore, news practitioners need to go digging in the new historical conditions the knowledge and information of news which satisfy the audience as well as continuously attracting their attention. Accompanied by the advancement of society, people’s attainment of knowledge and culture is constantly improving, which leads to the calmness of the audience when they face news media. Moreover, the status between the media and the audience is no longer seriously unbalanced as before, and the audience holds increasing awareness of protecting their legal rights, thus conflicts in news interview often occur. The news interview conflict involves a large number of game subjects. For this reason, a deep understanding of the situation of game parties in news interview conflict is in need.It can be said that news interview is a special social practice, thus the game nature of news interview needs to be discussed. The paper, from an overall perspective, is to re-examine the news interview activities as well as the reason of news interview conflict under the theoretical framework of Game Theory. Besides, the interdependence of Game makeup and subject-object strategy selection in news interview activities is analyzed to confirm the game nature of news interview activities; the rationality of the ideal of "rational" behavior of game subject in news interview conflict is also to be explored. On this basis, the author builds a Game mode for news interview conflict, using Game Theory model for reference, which centers the reporter in news interview activities, constituting a game entity that comprises the games between the reporter and the audience, the reporter and public power as well as public power and the audience, etc.Throughout the course of the game, there is no lack of available and selectable game strategy and game revenue among the game parties. In addition, the game parties can choose from their own strategy space the appropriate strategy to achieve the maximization of personal gains. After the simple classification of game subjects involved in news interview activities, the paper gives them the same amount of concern and investigates in detail the game parties’ strategy space and the maximum profits that will be achieved in corresponding selection of strategy. The paper innovatively introduce Game Theory to the theoretical research of news interview conflict, expecting to settle the dilemma of frequent incidence of conflicts in news interview, which will contribute to the sound and orderly development of the cause of China News and the society as a whole.
