With the problem of global warming and energy shortage, the fast developing data centeris facing the challenge of energy and cost saving issue. The green data center shall become ofthe new development direction of modern data center.The energy saving of data center power system shall be considered on the infrastructureof power supply system, the performance of main equipment and technical features of newequipment. Currently the data center power system includes two types:1. Single path power supply;2. Multiple power supply with UPS, HVDC and utility etc.In order to analysis the energy saving of power supply system, multiple mode of powersupply system in the data center shall be considered.The result of energy saving analysis shall be quantified shown with the calculation andanalysis on power factor of PUE.This paper shall analyze the energy saving methods of power supply system in data center,including utility, HVDC, transformer-less UPS, transformer-based UPS. Analysis result shallbe shown in graph.The conclusions are as follow:1. Transformer-based UPS conducted poor energy saving effect due to its lowefficiency;2. HVDC did not show the obvious energy saving effect due to its limited efficiencyimprovement;3. Transformer-less UPS showed better energy saving effect due to its high efficiency;4. The new generation HVDC showed obvious energy saving effect due to its highestefficiency;5. Utility power supply showed the best practice of energy saving.With the development of HVDC technology and the improvement of utility power quality,the data center power system reliability shall be improved with the mutually backup system ofthe utility power supply and the new generation HVDC module. HVDC shall be the nextmainstream equipment of power system in data center.
