As a kind of common social phenomenon, rumor spreading has produced animportant influence on people’s daily life. Especially in recent years, along with the rapiddevelopment of Internet and modern communication technology, the way of rumorspreading evolved from the main form of mouth to mouth to the form of coexistence ofmulti-channel. The speed of rumor spreading has had a promotion of the quality. Morepeople have been involved in rumor spreading and suffered a lot. What’s more, it mayeven cause public panic and trigger social crisis. Therefore, studying rumor spreading hasan important practical significance.The carrier of rumor spreading is social group, and social group consists of singleindividuals, so the study of individuals is an important aspect for rumor spreading research. Considering the individual heterogeneity, different individuals have different opinionstowards the messages spreading outside the world due to their different experiences. Basedon the study of learning and memory mechanism of the human brain, this paper uses theHierarchical Temporal Memory theory which was proposed by a famous neuroscienceresearcher named Jeff Hawkins, establishes a rumor spreading model modelingindividuals’ memory–prediction process. First the HTM model trains individuals inrumor spreading, and then tests these individuals’ judgment in the face of the messagesoutside the world.This paper mainly studies the individual memory-prediction model in rumorspreading based on HTM. Through the training of the individual, combining the memory–prediction function of individuals’ essence to the space-temporal characteristic of rumormessages, then individuals form predictions to the rumor messages through reasoning. Next, this paper carries out a series of experiments based on the.net platform, which on itdeveloped a rumor spreading computing experimental system for the generation andmaintenance of essential experimental data, learning scheme and experimental scheme. Finally, through the analysis of experiment results, the model verifies some psychologicaleffects which impacting the individuals’ memory–prediction function in rumor spreading,such as primacy effect, repetitive effect and the public authority effect. The experimentsshow that the individual memory-prediction model in rumor spreading based on HTM isan effective model for studying the individuals’ judgment to the rumor spreadingmessages.
