Nuclear power is one of some significant developing directions of energy strategy inChina. The molding of uranium dioxide pellet which is used as nuclear fuel is a key step inthe technology of nuclear power. If the density fluctuation is obvious, the quality of uraniumdioxide pellet will be fluctuated and cracks will form easily when it is sintered, even the “capremoved” phenomenon will appear. Therefore, it’s crucial to research a uranium dioxide pelletmolding system, an electro-hydraulic servo control system, which has high performance.The quality of uranium dioxide pellet mainly depends on the consistency and uniformityof its density, that is, mainly depends on the consistency and uniformity of molding processand pressure. Based on the technological property of molding of uranium dioxide pellet, thepaper analyzed some key technological factors which influence the molding of uraniumdioxide pellet. Then uranium dioxide pellet molding system is designed and basic elements ofwhich are designed and chosen.Dynamic analysis of uranium dioxide pellet molding system has been finished and thenthe mathematical model of valve controlled asymmetric cylinder actuating unit is built, that is,position and force transfer functions of asymmetric cylinder is built respectively whenstretching and retracting.The analysis and synthesis of uranium dioxide pellet molding system have been done inthis paper. Moreover, the stability of the system is analyzed, the compound controllingstrategy is proposed, which enables the switching process from position control to forcecontrol changing quickly without overshoot.Simulation of uranium dioxide pellet molding system has been done in the paper. Thesimulation results indicate that the system which has been designed in this paper not onlymeets the technological requirements, which is switching smoothly from position control toforce control, but also meets the quality requirements, which is consistency and uniformity ofthe pellet.
