Corrosion in reinforced concrete has a great impact on durability and safety of the concretestructures, so monitoring the corrosion is very significant for social and economic value, but thetraditional methods of monitoring corrosion in reinforced concrete have shortcomings and limitations.In this paper, combined with wireless transmission technology, the corrosion in reinforced concretemonitoring system based on wireless sensor network is designed. The main work of the paper hadbeen done was:1. Various functional modules in the overall framework of the system are explained. Bycomparing, the embedded sensor based on Electromagnetic coupling is determined to monitor thecorrosion in reinforced concrete, which does not need power and wire. The16-bit ultra-low-powermicrocontroller MSP430F149for main control chip, the AD9850based DDS technology for signalgeneration chip, and the nRF905for wireless transceiver chip are selected to build the monitoringcircuit. The star network and polling are selected as the topological structure and MAC protocol inthis system.2. The embedded sensor is simulated. The working principle of this sensor is discussed, and itsfeasibility of low cost is also certified. The parameters of this sensor are determined by the ANSYSand PSpice simulation, which can be used as a guidance to manufacture the sensor.3. The hardware and software of the system is designed. Based on the overall hardware andsoftware flow chart, the sensor nodes and sink node are equipped to realize their performance. For theconvenience of operation and management, the man-machine interactive interface is introduced usingVisual C++.4. Experiment on embedded sensor is proceeding and the corrosion in reinforced concretemonitoring system is tested. The experiment results verify the correctness of the method that is usedto simulate the embedded sensor. With joint debugging, the system networks normally, and each partof the system, working stably, can meet the engineering implementation.
