Reinforced corrosion monitoring of concrete has significant meaning for the durability assessment and residual life prediction of infrastructure . In this paper, based on the steel equivalent for monitoring and RF technologies which is proposed by Matthew in Texas University, a real-time reinforced corrosion monitoring system is designed.Firstly, the overall design of the real-time reinforced corrosion monitoring system is proposed. The passive lead-free way for reinforcement corrosion detection which based on passive electromagnetic coupling is determined. The working principle of this detection is showed and the feasibility of its low cost realization is certified, too. MSP430 is selected for main control chip, star topological structure and a MAC protocol mixed by FDMA and CSMA/CA protocol is selected for the wireless sensor network in this system.Secondly, the hardware of the real-time reinforced corrosion monitoring system is designed. The parameters of the sensor are determined by the PSPICE simulation. DDS sweep signal, peak detector, wireless transceiver, the digital control section, the sink node and other circuits are designed.Thirdly, the software of the real-time reinforced corrosion monitoring system is designed. The software of the ordinary node including the functional modules of external circuit and the realization of the communication protolcol between ordinary node and sink node is designed. The low power consumption of ordinary nodes is studied also. The software of the sink node including wireless communication and CSMA/CA protocol is designed.Lastly, the real-time reinforced corrosion monitoring system is tested. The final parameters of the sensor are determined. The performance of the system is tested combined with the external circuit. The test results show that the passive lead-free sensor meet the system requirements and the real-time reinforced corrosion monitoring system can meet the low-cost engineering implementation.
