Cables are widely used in complex products to connect electrical components andcontrol devices. Because cables are responsible for the power transmission in complexproducts, cables play an important role in quality of products. Nowadays, the layout designand assembly process planning of cables require more depends on physical prototype andexperiences of workers. So it has a long design cycle but poor quality and stability.Modeling cables oriented physical character and simulating the process planning of cablesin virtual environment is an effective way to solve these problems. Based on these, amethod of layout design and assembly process planning of cables is proposed, and theprototype system is developed in this thesis to provide an effective way for productsdevelopment.The studies of this dissertation focus on following aspects:(1) It pointed out that cables components were widely used in mechanical andelectrical products. At the same time, there exist lots of problems about the quality ofcables. It also pointed out that it is necessary to build up the cable’s model orientedphysical properties for layout design and assembly simulation of cables. At last, this paperintroduces the research background and significance of this study at home and aboard in thefield.(2) To get the form of a real cable in virtual environment, a physical model of cablesshould be built up based on the physical properties. Two physical models are put forwardfor layout design and assembly simulation of cables. Then, the energy curve model andmulti-branch mass-spring model are built up. At last the application field of these twomodels is introduced and the constraints are added to the method.(3) First of all, the design process based on the physical properties of the cable layoutis introduced. The method focuses on the physical properties of the cable contained in theenergy curve model, and the solution about this model. At last, the constraints are added inthis model according to the characteristics of cables to form more in line with cablefeatures.(4) A multi-branch mass-spring model, with lots of cable’s properties, is proposed as a physical model to realize the assembly simulation of cables. The most important partfocuses on the strategies and methods of solving the model in order to realize the real-timerequirements in a virtual environment. Finally the constraints are added to the model, andthe collision detection model of cables is constructed to realize the request of cablecollision detection in virtual environment.(5) On the basis of the research content, related prototype system is designed anddeveloped. This paper introduces the general situation, system structure and functionmodule in this system, at last, the instance of the system is verified with an example.Finally, the summing-up of the whole dissertation is made, prediction of the futureresearch and direction of relative techniques are made.
