Nowadays,with the value of industrial heritage was getting more and moreattention, people could use virtual reality technology and three-dimensional internettechnology to reproduce them, to preserve them in a digital way and to spread to thepublic. This had been an inevitable trend. This paper aimed to use digital technologyto restore water industrial heritage, to show the value of water industrial heritagethrough their remarkable engineering aesthetic significance, cultural and socialsignificance on manifestations, audio-visual experience as well as means ofcommunication, so that more and more people had been getting to know them andengaged in the career of preservation and promotion of the water industrial heritage.This paper was divided into four parts for analysis and research of the digitalcommunication design of water industrial heritage. First, introduced the researchbackground, the subject of the research, the purpose and the significance of theresearch, summarized the research result at home and abroad, then deepened thesignificance and the feasibility of the study. Second, explored the features of waterindustrial heritage based on virtual roaming system and analysed the aestheticcharacteristics and technical characteristics of water industrial heritage on an pointof view of engineering aesthetics. Third, took Harbin hundred years tower as anexample to study the engineering value of the water tower storage structures andexplained the methods to achieve its digitization and interactive experience. Finally,from the societal applications of virtual roaming system restoring water industrialheritage and the adaptive reuse of significance of digital technology for heritageconservation, expounded it has spread design values, and drew conclusions.The article analysed the identity and difference of the virtual roaming system reproducing water industrial heritage and traditional water industrial heritage, using the methods of field trips, literature and information research, examples demonstrate,compare and summarize. In technical aspects, the article explored its role in promoting the spread and protection of industrial heritage values. The article found meeting points between engineering aesthetics and traditional aesthetics, interactive experience and traditional experience, which has a certain value to future research in related field.
