As the Ad Hoc network does not need fixed network infrastructure, it has beenwidely used in civilian and military aspects; and it exhibits excellent propertiesespecially in UAV Unmanned Aerial Vehicle networks, wireless sensor networks andemergency command networks etc. The application environment of Ad Hoc network isvery complex and its nodes are usually working in time-varying wireless environment. So the selection of an appropriate routing protocol is an important guarantee for the AdHoc network to be used under complex environment. As the AODV routing protocolwith excellent features is specifically designed to adapt to the characteristics of the AdHoc network, so it is often improved by many researchers. The topic background and the basic knowledge of the simulation software OPNETis firstly introduced in this paper Then the key technologies of the Ad Hoc network arepresented and a comparison of several routing protocols is made in this paper. Throughthe comparison, it is indicated that AODV routing protocol is characterized with simplenodes, easy to implement and good scalability. Next, the specific work process of theAODV protocol is presented and the establishing process of AODV protocol routes isanalyzed in this paper. On the basis of the above, the routes establishment process ofAODV routing protocol based on the minimum hops is emphatically analyzed in thispaper, which shows that the AODV protocol based on the minimum hops to create thesource node to the destination node routing path needs least nodes, but thecommunication quality of any one node can affect the communication quality of thewhole link. In other words, the communication quality of the whole link depends on thenode whose communication quality is worst. For the above shortcomings, the routeprinciple base on maximum SNR is proposed in this paper, based on which to establishroutes can avoid the effect of the node with low SNR on the communication rate of thewhole link, then the communication quality and data transmission efficiency are greatlyimproved. The OPNET simulation results show that the improved AODV protocol givesa nice performance boost in the latency of pint-sized and medium-sized networks anddata throughput.
