Wireless Ad hoc network is a kind of special wireless network, which works in the unstructured and self-organized environment. Every node in the network acts as a host and router. Due to rapid change of topology, traditional routing protocol can not function properly under this environment. So the research of routing protocol has become one of the most important subjects of wireless Ad hoc network. Link failure caused by mobile node will result in route rediscovery, which again will bring greater costs and delay. As a result, finding more stable route is of great significance. And the long life route can make the communication between nodes more effective. This thesis is mainly composed of two parts. Firstly, based on the analysis of Linux routing architecture, we realize a kind of AODV routing protocol. Real testbed proves that our implementation works well. Secondly, based on AODV, we develop an effective routing protocol which can significantly improve route lifetime and is suitable for military and emergency applications. By use of more stable links in the process of route discovery, we are able to find more stable routes. Simulation results show that by use of the long life route, the network performance is obviously improved.
