The cryptographic chip will inevitably leak some important information about thecryptographic system when working, such as energy consumption, electromagnetic radiationand operating time. The side-channel attacks can be conducted to the cryptographic chip byusing the above information. Template attack is a new powerful side-channel attack methodsused in the case of limited side-channel information leakage, which takes a serious threat tothe security of the cryptographic chip. Therefore, the research on the technology of templateattack to cryptographic chip has very important significance. The main contents are asfollows:The paper summarizes the general steps of the template attack and the problem of theexisting template attack method, on the basis of the research on the side-channel informationleakage mechanism and the model of the attack theoretical and the principle of templateattacks. In response to these issues, the paper advanced the strategy of template building byusing the input of S-box, based on the in-depth analysis of the typical block cipher algorithmS-box, and introduced the several commonly used discriminate analysis for templatematching work. Take the experiment of the simulation of power consumption and actualpower attack for using the strategy of templates building and different discrimination method.The result shows that it can successfully narrowed guess the key space or obtain the correctkey value by the use of the strategy of templates building and different discriminationmethod.The side-channel leakage used in the template attacks contained noise and redundantinformation. And the various forms of the leakage of information are also different in thedimensionless and magnitude. Direct template analysis of original data will causeunnecessary computation. Classified the noise and given the proper disposal method fordifferent types of noise. Resolved the problem of the leakage of information with differentdimensionless and magnitude by using the method of equalization. Proposed the method ofcompressed the trace of energy and principle component analysis to remove redundantinformation. Finally, validated the proposed method based on the correlation coefficient andthe classification accuracy verification. The result proves the validity of this method.The quality of the side-channel information collected in the working process of cipherchip directly determines weather the template attack can get the key successfully. Based onthe research on the technology of side channel attack, this paper introduces the comentropy,signal-to-noise ratio evaluation criterion to evaluate the effect of side channel information onthe template attack. On this basis, this paper uses the proposed evaluation method to analyze the characteristics of energy consumption and electromagnetic radiation, and evaluates thecriterion of them.
