Multiple input multiple output (multiple-input multiple-out, MIMO) radar tosubvert the traditional phased array radar beam alignment in a direction idea, byemitting a plurality of orthogonal signals to achieve wide hair to cover the wholeairspace. Since the MIMO radar has been proposed, which draws radar researcher’sattention, makes the MIMO radar theory improve rapidly. Prior research has showncompared to phased array radar, in the areas of target detection, parameter estimation,MIMO radar has many obvious advantages. In order to analyze the advantages ofMIMO technology in the application of airborne radar, this thesis launches the research,main work and contribution to:(1) Characteristics of Signal Processing of MIMO RadarThis chapter analyzes the characteristics of MIMO radar in detail, including aseries of non-adaptive signal processing, like matched filtering, beam-forming, CFARdetection, etc. The background of environment concludes the non-ideal consideration,such as Amplitude-Phase error, Intrinsic Clutter Motion, Range Ambiguities and noise.Meanwhile, this section also illustrates the advantage of MIMO radar in terms ofairborne detection. Moreover, how to compare the ability of detecting the slow targetfairly is a big question, and it is also the foundation of analysis of MIMO performance.The following section compares SCNR (signal to noise ratio) of both the MIMO andphased-array radar after beam-forming. Through the comparison of SCNR, we can gethe conclusion that received the same number of the array elements, MIMO radarcoherent pulse number should be equal to the phased array radar transmitting coherentpulse number multiplied by MIMO radar orthogonal signal number.(2) Simulate the Clutter Modeling Based on Construction of CUDAHow to simulate the clutter modeling of MIMO radar accurately is almost themost important aspect in terms of the evaluation of performance of different signalprocessing algorithm. Following from that the current situation of more and more arrayunits, clutter patches and sampling rate, the efficiency of comparison of different signalprocessing methods is lower and lower, even the project schedule will be delayed. This thesis introduces GPU construction to simulate clutter, which takes advantage ofmulti-core characteristic, can greatly increase the simulation efficiency.(3)Computer Simulation Platform and Series of System ExperimentBased on the computer simulation platform, we can easily compare the differenceof both the MIMO radar and phase-array radar, whose criterion is the SCNR andCFAR detection probability. Through series of system experiment, including ofdifferent typical cases and different system parameters, we can prove that detectionperformance of MIMO radar is better than phased-array radar. At last, we use GUI toolto show the outstanding capability.
