Motivated by recent advances in Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wirelesscommunications, Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar has been receiving increasingattention in recent years from researchers and practitioners. MIMO radar is characterized byusing multiple antennas to simultaneously transmit diverse (possibly linearly independent)waveforms and by utilizing multiple antennas to receive the reflected signals. Like MIMOcommunications, MIMO radar offers a new paradigm for signal processing research. There are three kinds of MIMO Radar:transmit-receive diversity statistical MIMO Radar、transmit diversity statistical MIMO Radar and coherent MIMO Radar, due to the differentspace distances among antennas.Firstly, this paper introduces the concept and the model ofthese three kinds of MIMO radars. Discuss the performance of coherent MIMO Radar inexposure probability, virtual aperture extension and angular resolution, etc. Secondly, we studythe waveform design method of coherent MIMO radar, including the orthogonal linearfrequency modulation (LFM) signal and wide beam covering a given regiom of interest. Forminimum side lobe pattern design method sometimes appears larger fluctuation within the mainlobe, an improved waveform optimization design method is put forward; and a method forfinding the transmitting signal sequences and their weights from the covariance matrix isproposed.Simulation results certify that the improved algorithm can restrain the fluctuation inmainlobe, and that the beampattern of transmitting signal sequences is closed to thebeampattern of the covariance matrix. Thirdly, it introduces three kinds of equivalent structureof receiving signal processing of coherent MIMO Radar. Study the coherent MIMO radarsignals processing, including the matched filtering and receiving beamforming. For jointconstraint adaptive beamforming algorithm computational complexity is higher, in this paper, alower computational complexity of bilateral independently constraint adaptive beamformingalgorithm is proposed. The capacity of interference suppression of this algorithm is between thecase only with received array and the case with combined constraints. Finally, the generated method ofK distribution clutter is studied, as well as coherent MIMO radar detection performance innon-uniform distribution of clutter background. The false-alarm probability and detectionprobability expression is derived and the likelihood ratio detection operator is given.
