With the accelerated pace of life and the development of personal mobilecommunication technology, the mobile phone has becomes an essential part of people’slives, as one of the most important parts of the phone, the antenna plays a crucial role inthe performance of the phone. The size of the antenna is constantly being reduced due tofashion and beauty factors of phone ID. Meanwhile, the bandwidth of antenna becomeswider in order to pursue higher rate and better experience, in addition, with thecontinuous improvement of public health awareness, the radiation effects on the humanbody should be considered in phone antenna design, which further increase thedifficulty of the mobile phone antenna design.Based on the design requirements of Motorola’s new mobile phone antenna, thisthesis has done the following works:1. Introduces the basic theory of electrically small antennas, its inherentlimitations and solutions are also analyzed, subsequently, a brief introduction of handsetantenna are made, the principle and characteristics of several built-in antenna arestudied in detail, including Monopole antenna, Inverted F antenna and Planar Inverted-Fantenna. The thesis also summarize the technologies of miniaturization andMulti-frequency of handset antenna.2. Designs an IFA main antenna through XFDTD in the whole phone environmentwhich covers GSM850/GSM900/PCS/DCS/UMTS, the influence of the phone’selectromagnetic environment and antenna’s structure parameters on the antennaperformance are analyzed. After debugging, the size of antenna is56.57×11.52×3.60mm~3and the effective volume is only1.5cm~3which is smaller than most handsetantenna on the market, so the design achieves the requirement of miniaturization.Further more, the efficiency of the main antenna meets design requirements too.3. The interaction between the main antenna and human is analyzed in this paper.Further more, this thesis makes some suggestions on how to reduce the value of SAR.After debugging, the average SAR of the phone is0.55W/kg and0.36W/kg in1g and10g human tissue which is lower than1.6W/kg of American standard and2.0W/kg of European standard, so the design achieves low SAR.4. Design a GPS antenna and a BT/WIFI antenna in the complex mobileenvironment, through measurement, all performances meet the design requirements.
