The virtual simulation of sorts of natural phenomenon and scene on the earth hasbecome a hotspot in the field of computer simulation. Ocean is an important place forhuman economic and military activities which covers more than70%of the earth’s totalsurface area. Navigation is a kind of extremely important activities to human. Thereal-time and sense of reality of navigation visual simulation have been the goal ofmany scholars and researchers. With the development of computer technology andrelated theory, nautical visual simulation is involved in various theories andtechnologies and each has its own application fields. None of the theories ortechnologies can meet the requirements of all different areas so far.This thesis aims at the above-mentioned problems and achieves a navigation visualsimulation system with satisfactory real-time and sense of reality. The main content is asfollows:1. The theories and technologies of the ocean surface modeling are introduced.Projected grid is realized and improved to reach automatic LOD and boundless effect.Fast Fourier transform (FFT) is used to calculate the sea surface height field. Then wecan get the real-time waves.2. The current mainstream lighting models are introduced. Add a proper lightingmodel for navigation visual simulation system and based on this, realize reflection,refraction, caustic and other optical effects.3. Particle system theory is introduced. It performs well in simulating irregularobjects in nature. To enhance the sense of reality in navigation visual simulation system,particle system is used to simulate rain, snow and ship wake.4. The system design platform and system architecture are introduced. Summarizeall kinds of theory and technology the thesis involved, talk about work worth continueto research, and look to the future.
