The rapid development of modern microelectronics technology makes theintegration level of electronic devices higher and higher, the heat flow density larger andlarger, and this results in the higher requirements in thermal system. Nowadays coolingfan is extensively installed in electronic equipment especially the personal computerbecause of its low price and high performance. The failure of cooling fan will affect theheat dissipation of the system, thereby, influence the system performance. Consequently, cooling fan is the key factor affecting the service life of PC and the fault diagnosis ofcooling fan will has become a very important research content, and it has come to beconcerned by plenty of research interests. According to relevant data statistics, theprimary failure mode of cooling fan is mechanical failure, and bearing failure is themain cause of mechanical failure, for this consequence, the fault diagnosis of coolingfan is based on bearing fault diagnosis. This paper designed an accelerated life test aimed at cooling fan fault diagnosis, built a test platform, designed a data acquisition system, and analyzed the gathered data. The main processes of the test design included the choice of devices (primarily thechoice of sensor and DAQ card), the design of test equipment base, and the design ofdata acquisition system based on LabVIEW software. In the data analysis section, different time domain indexes were used according to the different characteristics ofdata, and the fault diagnosis of cooling fan rolling bearing was realized by usingAR-MED filter and a method based on continuous wavelet transform and waveletpacket decomposition.
