Currently, applications based on millimeter-wave take extremely important place inthe field of military and commercial wireless communication, and higher property andspecifications still got raised by expanding demand and spectrum resources’increasingly tensions. As one of the main part of the communication system, theperformance of the conversion component directly affects the level of efficiency of thetransceiver front-end, and also related to the performance of the whole system, whichshows its important position self-evidently.W-band is located in the upper band of millimeter-wave, based on which a deepresearch on upper-conversion technology has been made, and the records contains allanalysis details. First, a brief introduction of basic knowledge of the fourth harmonicmodule and mixing module has been made, then according to the respective indicator ofdemand, final schemes were determined after a detailed analysis and comparison;During the implementation process of the schemes, design and improvement of thepower supply circuit used for hybrid integrated circuit was raised, as well as thefive-port hybrid ring mixer; In measuring the modules, by employing a new test method,not mention detecting and solution of numbers problems and pitfalls, the data accuracyand convincing also improved by the comparison between the results of thedown-conversion condition and upper-conversion station; The measured results showthat the design meets the indicators of demand well, but still there are someshortcomings, which are summarized append with some recommendations to improvethe performance.The main research works are summarized as follow:1, A W-band single balanced mixer drived by low LO power has been designed,which achieved a good performance of the conversion loss better than-10dB;2, Record reproduced the complete design process, including the full details ofthe layout design, performance measurement, data analysis, andtroubleshooting, which some what has reference value and significance;3, Power supply circuit designed in this paper not only be able to provide a reliable power supply timing, and able to provide a protective effect, whichreduced the risk of damage to the monolithic; besides, it has simple structure,stable performance, and compact size;4, This dissertation proposed and adopted an improved measurement method,which having a good value on engineering practice. With the help, a greaterdegree and higher accuracy data acquisition has been achieved, and also,benefited from which, bugs detection and fix could be much easier.As one of the main part of the millimeter-wave communication systems, theimportance of converter system is obvious, so the work has been done in thisdissertation has significance practical value in the field of commercial and military, andit is worthy and need to constantly research and explore.
