Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is automatic identification technology toachieve and pass information through wireless communication. RFID has become a hotarea of research in wireless communication technology in the world, which is widelyused in many aspects of life due to its high precise transmission, high speed of readingand writing, pretty good security, well adaptability and can work without humanintervention. The research and development of RFID are mature in the low-frequencyand high-frequency, and now is hot in high frequency. But there is great developmentpotential in the2.45GHz and5.8GHz and ultra wide band. Antenna is the informationtransceiver, which plays an extremely important role in the RFID system. The antennais more and more miniaturization because of variety of mobile terminals and devicesbecoming small. The microstrip antenna is widely used in many areas owing to itssmall size, low profile, compact structure and easy integrating. In this paper, a brief description of background and research status of RFID isshown firstly. And detail theoretical inference is obtained, which includes thedefinition, structure and application of micro strip antenna. The working principle ofantenna and two main analysis methods (transmission line model and cavity model) areresearched. Some major ways to achieve antenna miniaturization are summarized inthe paper. In this thesis, three different types radio frequency microstrip antenna areresearched and devised, which are UHF RFID antenna, IE patch antenna formicrowave band and ultra wideband antenna for ultra-wideband radio frequencyidentification system. Based on the theories of antenna’s miniaturization, the antennaoriginal references is improved, by digging a square gap in the antenna patch centerand slotting in the four sides of the patch, which become a new UHF RFID antennathat the size is reduced by21%. The IE patch antenna is a microstrip antenna with airas the medium, working at2.45GHz and5.8GHz, and to achieve a well dual-bandcharacteristics and omni-directional radiation. Slotting in ultra-wideband monopoleantenna patch and ground plate, constantly optimize with the use of simulation software. A WLAN band notch ultra-wideband RF antenna is obtained, and its variousparameters on the performance of the antenna are discussed in the paper.
