There are mainly physical layer, data link layer and network layer in protocol stack of WSN. As a sensor network protocol stack infrastructure to determine the use of the radio channel, MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol directly has important impact on the overall network performance. The MAC layer mechanism for wireless sensor network research is becoming more and more important. The subject of this paper has important theoretical and practical value. In recent years, researchers have proposed a variety of wireless sensor network MAC protocol, divided into synchronous MAC protocol and asynchronous MAC protocol, and the former synchronization process is too complex, with longer latency, and with high energy consumption. At the same time, the performance of WSN is closely related to the detail scene. Therefore, how to reduce the latency of wireless sensor networks transmission and how to reduce energy consumption is still remain to be resolved. Focusing on the MAC protocol mechanisms in wireless sensor network performance, and studying the existing MAC protocol mechanisms, this paper purposes some useful improvements and proposed protocol mechanisms based on the priority called PRIO_MAC.This paper proposed a new protocol mechanism based on the priority called PRIO_MAC. The mechanism of priority had been put forward, and then the MAC protocol are classified accordance with the existing sleeping mechanism in MAC protocol, compare the performance characteristics of these existing MAC protocol, MAC protocol mechanism has been inadequate. Secondly, to meet the demand of real-time of urgent data, I purpose a priority contention window mechanism and priority data corresponding linear backoff mechanism. Thirdly, this paper proposes a new sleep-wake mechanisms, corresponding improvements in sleep mechanisms for existing MAC protocol. Finally, I do the simulation and verification the PRIO_MAC protocol mechanisms in the open-source software simulation platform NS-2. The result of the simulation shows good latency performance and good energy consumption performance.
