Forest district has complex and changing environment, forest fires and other extreme disasters and crime happen frequently, therefore, daily patrols of the forest area is particularly important. Today’s forest areas patrol monitoring task carried out by forestry workers is apt to make workers injured due to the harsh environment; moreover, the work efficiency is very low. Considering the increase in labor costs and the rising cost of guard,equipment that can be used in the local area instead of the workers to do the automatic forest patrol monitoring and improve work efficiency is very necessary.A kind of small crawler patrol monitoring robot system is designed here for the local rugged forest roads. The robot consists of crawler mobile chassis,the vehicle stent, wireless CCD, wireless communication device, control system, GPS positioning system, power supply system,motor drive system, man-machine interface control software, voice systems and other components. Cleverly designed mechanical structure makes the robot own good mobility. Electrical control system uses a modular design, which makes it easy to install and maintenance. Since the man-machine interface software is independently designed and developed,the user can easily monitor the forest areas environment. A variety of environmental detection sensors can transmit environment monitoring information through the wireless module in time to the remote control terminal for storage and display. After lossless compression,the wireless camera can transmit the real-time photographs through the wireless network to the remote side monitor for analysis,and the forestry staff can make deep study on the on-site real-time information.Through the field tests,the robot showed excellent patrol monitoring capabilities.By sending a robot to the local forest, instead of the traditional forestry workers to perform day-to-day patrol and environmental monitoring, the working environment of the forest area patrol workers is greatly improved.In addition, the robot can replace the researchers to the forest areas far away to implement scientific and technological research task,and to acquire useful information back to the remote terminals, for deeper studies.
