The velocity that the high-precision Doppler radar provides, the height that the radio altimeter provides and the inertial navigation system constitute the autonomous navigation system, which do not depend on any external resources. It is indispensable for long-endurance aircraft and weapons system with large range. With the rising requirements of small control unit, low-cost and high integration, it is necessary to develop the research of the radar which is used for velocity and height measurement. It also conforms to the current design trend of highly integration and multi-function.This paper focused on the research of the radar which is used for velocity measurement and height measurement, carried out the overall design by analyzing the working principle and composition of the radar. This paper proposed a working system to obtain a high precision of height and velocity measurement. First of all, the design of interrupted continuous wave signal is researched and simulated by comparing the difference of emission characteristics of signals. Secondly, the relationship between the antenna beam pointing angle and measurement of performance parameters is analyzed, and the method which is used for selecting antenna beam angle is described. Finally this paper discussed the works of a different spectrum of frequency-domain signal processing estimation algorithm and implementation, and also discussed the result of measure performance using different algorithms based on the data simulation. The research result provide a significant reference to the signal processing algorithms and engineering applications of the radar.
