With the change and upgrade of traditional war model,the conventional active radar which functioned as the war detection in the past is suffering from the technology application bottlenecks, because of endless appearance of the anti-radiation weapons, the active radar faces the huge threats to survival. Active radar need emit wireless signals when it works, which is its inevitable technical shortages to avoid being detected.Passive radar need not transmit wireless signals, only receive passively the target signals,it uses the angle data and the time difference information which the servo tracking system has measured to finish the positioning of the radiation source. This is a radar which is completely different with the traditional radar, and it is a new-born detection and measuring method accompanying with the development of active radar.Firstly, the paper analyses the technology and times background of passive radar, and introduces the current passive radar products which is used successfully. From the development procedure at home and abroad, the passive radar technical status is put here.Based on the referred messages, a common bearing-only passive location algorithm is inferred presently in detail, the one utilizes the triangle relation between observation angles and space coordinates, and has simple principle and low calculation complexity,the location system is easy to establish, but the fault is which location precision is not high;Here specially, location effect under the necessary condition and complete condition is simulated.Another positioning method is based on the time difference, the method takes advantage of TDOA (equivalent to the wave path difference) between the radiation source and different observation stations to establish the target locating equation.This method requires many more detection stations and high inter-station synchronization accuracy, the system configuration based on this method is relatively complex, but it can obtain a high positioning accuracy. Aiming to the effect of location using TDOA method, the paper employs some relatively full application environment to finish simulation, many laws about accuracy distribution and station-laying distribution are obtained from the simulation outcome.On the base of generalizing the merits and shortages of bearing-only positioning and TDOA location methods, the paper proposes a location method which utilizes the angles jointed TDOA information, this location technology requires few observation stations, and takes advantage of angles and TDOA comprehensively, it has many more advantages in the aspect of reducing the system complexity and improving the location accuracy.Finally, the maneuvering passive location method is studied in the last part, it is thought that the maneuvering passive radar can not only finish the detection of targets, but can artificially reduce the threat from hostile electronic surveillance, which is a passive radar application model to orient the electronic warfare environment.
