Flight scene simulation has a wide range of needs in the areas as pilot training,aircraft design, demonstration, military simulation, video effects, etc. It is an importantand indispensable part in flight simulation. Cloud is an essential element whensimulating the view of the aircraft flying in the sky. It is widely distributed in the sky,and its fuzzy appearance will change by the time. It is a normal situation that flyingthrough the cloud. These needs make the flight scene simulation need to solve theproblem of the realistic simulation of large-scale volume cloud, which contains series ofdifficulties as the model building, dynamic simulation, lighting effects simulation andreal-time rendering of the large-scale volume cloud, and so to make the cloudsimulation become a hot and difficult problem in the flight scene simulation. Meantime,it will improve the expressiveness of flight scene simulation, make it a better role indemonstration, by taking advantages of the performance capabilities of the powerful3Dcomputer graphics to show invisible flight elements.This thesis studies on the simulation of large-scale dynamic volume cloud, and3Dvisualization of invisible flight elements. A complete solution for the simulation oflarge-scale dynamic volume cloud is made on the basis of the existing research. In thissolution, two different cloud models are chosen for the dynamic simulation andrendering, the simulation for the ascending air has been added to cellularautomaton-based dynamic simulation, a method called Multilayer Circle Slices is madefor cloud rendering, and a lighting simulation combines empirical line integral methodand artist-driven color correcting method is used. On the other hand, to make better useof the expressiveness of computer graphic, a flight path is generated by Cubic Beziercurve, and then displayed by attitude semicircles. The evaluation of flight path and therisk of cloud are visualized by color.Finally, the key technologies researched in the thesis are implemented in aprototype system. By the demonstration of rendering result and the analysis of theperformance, the significance of these key technologies in both improving of therealism of cloud rendering and better using of the expressiveness of computer graphics to the flight scene simulation is showed.
