Photonic crystal is a new kind of material, which dielectric constant is periodicaldistributed in space. It’s most essential characteristics are ‘photonic bandgap’(PBG)and the realization of photo’s localization. Since it was first proposed at1987, the PBGstructure has been widely used in numerous scientific research fields in the last25years.In recent years, the research of PBG structure at microwave and Terahertz most focus onreducing mode competition and propagation loss inside devices.In this thesis, two-dimensional PBG(2-D PBG) structure is used to design gyrotronresonator working at W band, Terahertz transmission and radiation elements. The mainwork of this thesis is as follows:1. The global bandgap of TM mode and TE mode in both square and triangular arraydielectric2-D PBG structure is calculated by plan wave expansion method(PMW); andthe global bandgap of TM mode and TE mode in both square and triangular arraymetal2-D PBG structure is calculated by finite difference method(FDM). The result ofthe calculation verifies the existence of photonic bandgap, which meanselectromagnetic wave at special frequency can’t transport in2-D PBG structure.2. By taking advantage of the realization of photo’s localization, a2-D PBG structuregyrotron resonator worked at95GHz is designed and compared with traditionalresonator. The regular rule to design2-D PBG structure resonator is summarized.3. Based on metal square2-D PBG structure, both straight and90°curving low losswaveguide transmission line working at140GHz and220GHz are designed. Highperformance2-D PBG power divider and H-plane horn antenna are designed based on2-D PBG structure waveguide. By combing power divider and H-plane horn antenna, aH-plane horn array antenna is designed at last. Numerical simulation result shows thatthe array has symmetrical pattern and relative high gain.
