Now our society is actively promoting energy saving. With the explosive growth ofthe mobile Internet, its energy consumption gradually concerns relevant organizations.How to save more energywithout compromise the quality of servicebecomes a hotresearch topic of mobile network. The mobile network’s energy consumption is mainlyconcentrated in the access network, so this paper designed and implemented a UMTSnetwork simulation program to study energy-saving technology of the radio accessnetwork.This paper aims to study the network energy-saving solutions by means of networkoptimization, in order to study the energy-saving effect of these schemes, a staticsimulation program for UMTS network was designed and implemented. The program’sinput is the network cell information, geographical information.In simulations, theprogram randomly generateusers, and implement power control, the final output of theprogram is the capacity of each cell as well as the received power of uplink anddownlink, and network pilot pollution, soft handover were also added up for researchersto analyze network performance. Research and analysis of some features of the UMTSnetwork was done by the simulation program.In this paper, we use the network simulation program to study feasibleenergy-saving schemes, after the study we found that the scheme based on the UMTSnetwork’s respiratory called "dimming" has limited energy efficiency, but the schemedoes not need to add new equipment to implement, the on-off base station schemewhich is also called the "umbrella cell method" can achieve better energy-saving effect,but due to its use of an umbrella cell instead of the original7cells to complete coverage,it can only be used in the case of low network capacity. Finally, we combined theschemes of "dimming" with "umbrella-shaped" and do some research of the newscheme, we found that the new scheme’s energy-saving effect is better than the othertwo original schemes.Finally, a summary of the work will be given and suggestions for improvement inthe future will be discussed.
