The base station is located at the forefront end of the mobile communication accessnetwork. For the operation and maintenance (O&M) suppliers, either a networkplanning or network optimization, they usually assume that the base station is workingunder normal conditions. Whether this assumption is established? It is the eternal issuefor the O&M suppliers to inspect and test the base station, in order to find the answer tothis question. One of the O&M suppliers’ main works is to maintain the normaloperation of the communication network. And the maintenance of the base station is notonly the starting point of the entire network maintenance, but also the most basic work.GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) is the most widelycommunication system in the world. It is a representative of the second generationmobile communication, with the most users and largest market share of mobilecommunications standard. As an important part of the GSM wireless mobilecommunication system, the base station is mainly to complete the radio channelmanagement and wireless transceiver functions. After a long and continuous operation,the device components of GSM base station gradually appear aging and other negativephenomena. It may affect the quality of network communication system and the normalcommunication of other communication system, and create a threat to the entireairwaves order. Therefore, to ensure the normal operation of the GSM network andother communication systems non-interfering with each other, the test of GSM basestation becomes very necessary.According to market research, the traditional base station test instrument is alwaysin two extreme cases. Ones have a powerful instrument test, but complex operation,high cost, huge volume, poor mobility, less mobile measurement. The others have asingle function, low cost, weak data transmission capacity, no humanized interface. Andthe traditional wired test base station program have common and obvious drawback.Most tests affect the normal work of the base station, and subject to the limitations ofthe test environment. The wireless test technology can effectively solve the above problem.Therefore, this paper has designed a GSM base station wireless test hardwareplatform based on CPCI, which fills the gap between the expensive and overallconsistency testing tools and the low-cost, only one measurement instrument. Theplatform not only meets the staff to test the typical parameters of the base station, butalso has a low cost, strong mobility, wireless test and so on. The paper is organized asfollows.First of all, the present situation of base station testing technology and typical basestation test system architecture are introduced.Secondly, the system demand is analyzed and the brief design of the base stationtest hardware platform is given. According to the different functional partitioningmodule, designs the various sub-modules. Based on requirement analysis, it carries outa design on software architecture.Furthermore, the module circuit and system power supply circuit are designed indetail and some basic rules of the PCB design and schematic design process aredescribed.In the end, the main parameters of the system are tested and the results areanalyzed.The hardware platform of base station tester based on CPCI is designed andimplemented in this paper. The platform with a modular structure has a rapid testing ofthe base station receiver sensitivity and transmitter power through the GSM900/1800airinterface. With wireless remote testing, the test distance within1000m, the test speedwithin10s, while supporting the remote web testing. The platform is based on theWindows user interface, which simplifies the field operations, has a good interactiveexperience. The platform that enriches the base station test equipment camp will bereference for wireless communication base station measurement.
