With the formation of the concept of the Internet of Things, RFID technology hasbeen increasingly applied in all walks of life. Therefore, there is a broad prospect for theapplication of intelligent RFID reader with high-performance and low-powerconsumption. Taking hardware platform, the task has implemented UHF RFID airinterface protocol, the porting of the Linux and the development of various drivers, aportable intelligent RFID reader being completed. On this basis, the application systemhas been developed. The hardware platform consists of the RF section and Controller section. RFsection uses PR9000as RF chip. PR9000is on-chip system which integrateshigh-performance UHF RFID RF module and the8051processor cores, and providerich peripheral interface. This paper first introduces the basic principles of RFIDtechnology and system models, focusing on the research and analysis of the UHF RFIDair interface protocol (EPC Class1Gen2). According to the protocol specification andhardware feature, Gen2protocol stack and related driven has been implemented.Several important Gen2instructions has been implemented, including Select,Query/QueryReq, ACK, Req_RN, Read, Write, etc. Driver mainly includes serial portdriver and RF driver.Controller section takes ARM9S3C2440as the processor, based on the processorto complete a U-boot port. The modification of the kernel source code of Linxu-2.6.3,added support for RTC, network cards, serial devices and the root file system havesuccessfully completed the porting of the Linux operating system. Meanwhile, Linuxdevice drivers, such as the beep, LCD have been completed. The porting of Qt/Embededgraphics library, SQLite database and MySQL runtime library, has improved theruntime environment of the application.Taking advantage of the reader, a logistics management system has been developed, that the function modules of the system mainly include database management, cargoinformation management, and RFID tags scanning, and system settings etc. By functional testing of the application system, it can not only test whether the variousfunctional modules to meet demand, but also test the Gen2protocol stack,radio-frequency driver, the Linux kernel, LCD device driver. So, this system is acomplete validation of the various functions of the smart handheld RFID reader, and anevidence of its practicality.
