With the development of microelectronics technology, computer technology and communication technology, the power system in our country has developed rapidly. Due to the improvement of people’s living standard, the requirement of safe and stable operation is getting higher. In order to improve the power grid security, reduce infrastructure investment and promote unattended substation system, power grid dispatching automation system emerges as required.Power grid dispatching automation system focus mainly in the traditional telephone communication, but it was also replaced by the comprehensive automation equipment monitoring system which computer takes place instead. With the increase of all levels’ complexity of power grid, dispatching centers need more detailed information to control the operation of power grid and substation. In the mean time, the rapid development of computer technology provides the upgrading condition for power grid dispatching automation system.Yihuang substation is an important part of the national grid, which has been upgraded several times with automation system in recent years and it saved manpower and material resources with its unattended function. So developing a new main dispatching station system becomes our main goal. The new system can be used to monitor grid operation status and remote control by power staff. Furthermore, through the feedback information returned from grid data-base, it can execute substation safety analysis and decrease loss by implementing effective countermeasures and treatment in time while accident happens.The power grid dispatching automation system has two main modules which is power grid dispatching automation scheduling and database maintenance, and both of them requires different permissions to access. It is made up with the Windows Server2003platform, c/s structure and SQL server2000database. It can process redundant data by using ODBC technology and ADO database access technology. Moreover, it speeds up the user’s response time by outputting old data. This system optimizes the index and inquiry function of user’s report database and ensures the long-term stability and efficient operation.The feedback from Yihuang substation after using this system is as follows:it improved the power staff’s work efficiency massively; it can achieve remote monitoring and control to substation, through the log feedback information, it reduces the substation maintenance time. Therefore, the research of this article has certain social value to promote the development of the electric power system.
