An Ad Hoc Routing Protocol For Asaretric Link

Due to the different transmit power of each nodes, asymmetric link is prevalent inthe realistic wireless network. Therefore it is necessary to design an asymmetric routingprotocol for Ad Hoc networks.A new asymmetric routing protocol AODV-AV, basing on AODV, is presented inthis paper to improve the traditional Ad Hoc networks routing protocols. In the routingprotocol AODV-AV, the request message (RREQ) and response message (RREP) aredesigned with link flag and link status information and the weights of the links arecomputed in the route discovery phase. In the case of pure two-way link network, theroute discovery method of AODV is adopted. Otherwise, when meeting with thenetwork which includes some asymmetric links, a link-break detection scheme and aroute-related nodes table are proposed accordingly to make route discovery andmaintenance better suited for this case.Finally, this paper conducts simulation and analysis against performance of therouting algorithms and makes the comparison with three existing protocols, includingAODV, AODV-H and AODV-AV, by the OPNET. The simulation results show thatAODV-AV routing protocol can be better applied to the asymmetric Ad hoc networks.
