More than six decades have passed since the image compression technology was firstly proposed. The image compression technology now is a fully-fledged academic subject. Some outstanding compression algorithms are widely used in image processing, such as the international compression standard JPEG2000, the compression standard CCSDS and the fast SPIHT algorithm based on spanning tree. However, with the rapid development of social informatization, the image compression technology is facing the problem of data volume surge. It is quiet difficult to process the mass of data at a high speed with a single image compression technology. This thesis introduces the high-speed image decompression system adopting the parallel technology based on existing algorithms, and explains the image decompression system in depth.First of all, this thesis outlines the current development of image compression algorithm, and further investigates the fast SPIHT algorithm based on spanning tree. Then some parallel techniques are introduced, including thread synchronization and data sharing mechanism between processes. On this basis, the high-speed image decompression system is designed and realized based on process and thread technology. The image decompression system consists of the image preprocessing module, data sharing memory module, communication memory module, image decoding module and image postprocessing module. Multiple decompressing processes and decompressing threads are created to decompress a large number of image compressed stream efficiently.Finally, the experimental results show that the high-speed image decompression system based on the parallel technology has achieved the design targets in terms of throughput rate, single frame decoding delay and reliability.
