With social progress and the extensive use of the Internet, various business processes has accumulated a large amount of unstructured data, accounting for85%of the total data. Unstructured information is an important source for government and enterprise to make decision, its importance cannot be ignored. Therefore, how to manage these unstructured data effectively is the very issue need to be solved.Traditional database management products have added the management of unstructured data in their new version, but these management are just the surface. The products that specifically for unstructured data management such as content management products are expensive and the cost is big. In this case, the XML (Extensible Markup Language) gives user a new idea in the management of unstructured data.Currently, the mainstream database companies on the market have added the support of XML in their Database products. Oracle company added the Oracle XML DB in its latest released database system. Be a part of Oracle Database, Oracle XML DB is a high-performance technology to store and retrieve XML. Oracle XML DB make Oracle Database can provide complete and efficient functions of relational data management, and also provides functions that could be comparable with the native XML database. This paper analyzes the technology of Oracle XML DB and discusses how to manage the XML content in the database. Then this technology is used in the water conservancy results show system.Water conservancy results show system involves a lot of unstructured such as word documents and pictures. By analyzing the structure of the unstructured data, this paper creates corresponding conversion program to read the content of those unstructured data and uses different conversion rules to convert the file into standard XML document. After those steps, the management of unstructured data is converted to the management of semi-structured data in XML format. At last, by using Oracle XML DB database to store XML documents, we finally achieve the purpose of managing unstructured data effectively.
