The Technigue And Svstem For Computer Assisted Animation Of Flving Apsaras

Art of Flying Apsaras in Dunhuang has strong cultural connotations and the art atmosphere of the mightiness. However, currently the animation process of Flying Apsaras is complex, time-consuming and technically demanding. Meanwhile, there lacks a method to control the simulation result of ribbons in Flying Apsaras.We introduced computer assisted solutions for3D and2.5D animation process of Flying Apsaras, and developed the computer assisted animation system to meet the needs of common animation process of Flying Apsaras. We concentrated on physical simulation of cloth and related motion controlling techniques and thus applied them on process of ribbon animation.In this paper, character animation is processed based on skinned mesh animation, and motion templates are used to increase the efficiency of character animation. As to the cloth such as dress and ribbon in Flying Apsaras, physical simulation is introduced to automatically create the animation. Constraining the cloth to the character makes the cloth follow the character’s movement. We implemented an interactive tool which allows user to fix the overlapping display issue between2D paintings with3D ribbons in2.5D animation. In addition, we focused on the motion control techniques for physical simulation of ribbon, and thus users can precisely design the ribbon animation. In this case, we involved creation of ribbon and material of ribbon as well.At last, we designed and implemented our assisted animation process system based on Blender, containing character animation, cloth simulation and enhanced ribbon animation. The system supports the entire animation process of single Flying Apsaras. We defined templates for the animation process, including motion template, shape template for ribbon, material template for ribbon and animation template, to speed up the animation process of Flying Apsaras. We also developed a resource database for managing and sharing these templates.
