Virtual home decorating system is a typical application of virtual reality. In virtual home decorating system, light simulation and human-computer interaction will greatly affect users’experience. In order to get the real light color effect, traditional BRDF models only accept complicated light color parameters which have to be adjusted by users. But the complex adjusting process is not suitable for ordinary users. And further more traditional BRDF models do not take light attenuation into account which is important for scenes with indoor light. In order to simplify user operations, and make users focus on home decorating rather than the correct performance of light, this paper proposes a light simulation algorithm. First, the color performance of different light source can be calculated by CIE1931chromaticity functions using the spectrum of different light sources. And then in order to simulate light attenuation phenomenon, this thesis proposes a new algorithm which uses the channel independence of the Lab color space to decay the color of fragments which have different distances from the light. Using this algorithm, we implement multiple lights in the virtual home decorating system. On the other hand, a good human-computer interaction will greatly affect the user experience and productivity. But there is no standardization in this field and most home decorating systems do not supply good examples. So through user surveys and experiments, author of this thesis designs a human-computer interaction flow which is suitable for home decorating, and applies this flow to virtual home decorating system. Both the lighting simulation algorithm and new interaction manner are all used in the virtual decorating software, and satisfaction results are achieved.
