Data center, concentrated with all kinds of hardware and software resource andvariety of business-critical systems, is the center of computation and storage, In order toimprove the utilization of resources and reduce operating costs, virtualizationtechnology of servers and network devices in data center is becoming a research hotspot.With network virtualization, the network bandwidth resource of data center is shared byall the virtual machines of all tenants. How to allocate network bandwidth resource to avirtual machine according to a tenant’s requirement fairly, and how to make guaranteeof multi-tenant network performance isolation have become a urgent problem to besolved, which is the key point for data center to realize pay-as-you-go mechanism. Afair and reasonable data center virtual machine bandwidth control mechanism is neededbadly.The main work of this paper is focuses on the technology of the virtual machinebandwidth control in data center. Firstly, we make a review of data center networktopology, and then study the virtual machine technology and network data centervirtualization technology. We analyse the performance requirements of the data centervirtual machine bandwidth control mechanism. This paper introduces a new mechanismon how is the network weights given to a virtual machine and a bandwidth allocationalgorithm based on network weights. Design and achieve the system prototype of thedata center virtual machine bandwidth control mechanism by interposing new codebetween the TCP/IP stack and the NIC driver. Finally the system performance wasverified by the experiment. The main work and contributions of this thesis are shown asfollowing:(1) we make a review of data center network topology, make an introductory andcomparative study of three levels of data center network topology structure whichinclude the traditional data center three tree layer network structure, the current datacenter network topology structure and a new data center network structure with virtualcondition.We studied the technology of virtual machine, and introduced network datacenter virtualization technology from the core layer, access layer and the virtualmachine network switching.(2) This paper introduces a new mechanism on how is the bandwidth weights givento a virtual machine and a bandwidth allocation algorithm based on network weights.We analyse the characteristics of network of date center with virtualization technology,as well as the properties of the data center virtual machine bandwidth controlmechanism. We extended the data center virtual machine bandwidth guarantee model,each virtual machine is given both a minimum bandwidth guaranteed and a maximumbandwidth, to obtain a better balance between determinism and efficiency. Make a performance evaluation by comparing with the existing mechanism.(3) We designed and achieved the system prototype of the data center virtualmachine bandwidth control by interposing new code between the TCP/IP stack and theNIC driver. We built a prototype as a Windows NDIS. We allocated bandwidth forevery virtual machine distributed using congestion control loop which is similar to TCP.We introduce a new route mechanism, which is called PSSR, to completion route.Finally, we make a simple experiment, which shows that the system can giveguaranteed bandwidth for each virtual machine at both ingress/egress direction, andkeep a network performance independent of each tenant virtual machine.In summary,this paper studied the technology of the virtual machine bandwidthcontrol in data center. Introduced a new mechanism on how is the network weightsgiven to a virtual machine and a bandwidth allocation algorithm based on networkweights. Designed and achieved the system prototype, and make a simple experimentalverification. This paper makes effective exploration on the technology of the virtualmachine bandwidth control in data center, and has some theory significance and thepractical value of engineering application.
