In recent years, with the pace of popularization of higher education accelerated, thequality of graduate education and faculty teaching obtains more attentions. Graduateteaching assistant system in American universities occupies an important position inAmerican higher education, it is an important means to improve the quality of Americangraduate students, and it has become a transition from students to teachers. Americanuniversities gradually promote and improve the system of graduate teaching assistants;more universities began to focus on the role of graduate teaching assistants as anassistant teacher. This paper describes the evolution of America graduate teachingassistant system from the historical perspective, and explores the reasons whichpromoting its development; as well as from the view of policy to analyze themanagement system and training system. Then selects Duke University as a case study,specifically addressed the implementation of the graduate teaching system in Americauniversity. At last, the paper summarizes the characteristics and functions of Americangraduate teaching assistant system, and puts forward some suggestions for ouruniversities to establish and improve the graduate teaching assistant system.
