With the continuous development of economy and continuous progress of society, the internet has come into innumerable households which produces a great impact on our daily life. It can be seen that there are tremendous changes on college students’life with the popularization and development of Internet application. But there are also some hazards when the internet brings a lot of convenience into college students’life such as internet addiction problem which has a negative impact on college students physically and mentally and even can do harm to the entire society.In this essay, the issue of internet addiction is studied by the way of theoretical analysis and empirical research. The first step is to analyze the concept of internet addiction and state of the research at home and abroad by looking up literatures, and then define the standard of internet addiction as well as the harm that Internet can bring to college students. Then use the questionnaires and interview of empirical research to understand the current situation of internet addiction and give a brief analysis based on the statistical results. The third part analyzes the formation of the internet addiction based on the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and ecological system theory and then points the main reasons of the internet addiction are ungratified needs, insufficient self-control ability and undesirable external environment. Then the last step carries out countermeasure research by using the way of social work:establish the civilized internet environment and correct attitude of surfing the internet by vigorous propaganda; prevent the formation of internet addiction and help the group of people who is addicted to internet through group work method especially growth group and support group; integrate resource around college students by using case study in order to achieve the purpose of helping them prevent, remit and stop internet addiction.
