Objective:This study aims at exploring the counseling effects of Adlerian group counseling on Internet addiction, social interest and self-concept of college students with Internet addiction. The theoretical significance of the study is to reveal the relations between Internet Addiction Behavior and Adler theories such as self-concept and social interests as well as to provide practical guidance strategies on psychological guidance for college students’Internet Addiction.Methods:The study used the quasi-experimental design. The subjects consisted of30college students with Internet addiction. They were from Changsha Environmental Protection Technology Vocational College. They were selected based on their report of Internet use through the Internet-Use Scale and interviews conducted by the researchers. These college students were assigned to an experiment group and a control group. The experiment group was treated with8sessions of Adlerian group counseling while no guidance was provided for the control group. Instruments for measuring the effects included Chen Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS), Self-Concept Scale, and Social Interest Scale. All the data were analyzed by one-way ANCOVA. Furthermore, personal interviews were conducted after the posttest for experiment group members so as to understand the change members had made after receiving the group guidance.Results:The results of Adlerian group counseling had shown that there was significant difference between score of the experiment group and that of the control group in two dimensions such as "Human Relations and Health"(F=3.92,p=0.05), and "Internet Addiction Volume Scale"(F-5.78,p=0.02) as well as in dimensions like "connection"(F=7.16, p=0.01) in social interest inventory and self-concept scale (F=4.24, p=0.04)Conclusion:The major findings of this study are:First, Adlerian group counseling has significient effects on the subjects’Internet Addiction. Second, Adlerian group counseling has significant effects on the subjects’connection of social interest as it emphasizes open and cooperative group atmosphere. Third, Adlerian group counseling has significant effect on self-concept of college students addicted to internet.
