Counselors are the backbone of ideological and political education of universitystudents, student’s daily administration and service. They also are the educators,administrators, guiders who accompany and serve the students safeguarding thehealthy development and growth of university students. When implementing theseries of supporting document of Central Document No.16, Ministry of Education haspointed out the direction that counselor team shall develop into professionalizationand specialization, and has taken the measures in vocational training and motivationetc., and has made great progress in counselor professionalization in recent years. Thecounselor professionalization in colleges and universities has become an importantchannel to improve the overall quality level and work effectiveness of counselor team,and an important channel to improve personnel training level in colleges anduniversities.Starting from building a student counselor team with the firm political belief, theexcellent professional work, the strict discipline, and the integrity working style, thisthesis has reviewed the main achievements of three historical periods in counselorconstruction of colleges and universities in China, and has summarized the politicalattributes, education attributes, management attributes and assistive attributes ofcounselor. It also has clarified the related concepts and basic elements of counselorprofessionalization. This thesis also has summarized the significance, feasibility andtheoretical support in counselor construction, and has presented the basic goal ofcounselor professionalization. Basing on theoretical research and investigation ofcounselor building among the four representative universities in Hunan Province, thisthesis has summed up the following problems in counselor team, i.e. selectionmechanism, position responsibility, evaluation mechanism, safeguard mechanism,knowledge structure and team stability etc., and has thoroughly analyzed the maincause of these problems from the levels of the state, colleges and universities, andcounselors. Finally, this thesis has brought up with feasible countermeasures andsuggestions to counselor professionalization, which mainly including deepen theunderstanding and guarantee the mechanism of policy, perfect the administration andevaluation mechanism, value the development and expand training improvingmechanism. This thesis also has a general discussion about countermeasures in system and mechanism in furthering counselor professionalization.
