The continous development of China’s economy and society makes Chinese languagegradually become one of the most important languages in the world. With the friendly andcooperative relations between China and Indonesia, Indonesian government launched theChinese Languages education curriculum. At present many primary schools, middle schools anduniversities continuously started teaching Chinese language. More and more Indonesianstudents learn Chinese language.The teaching materials (textbooks) are an important part in the second language teaching.The quality of the textbooks used directly affects the teaching results and efficiency. This thesisis based on the most widely used Chinese textbooks in Indonesia’s primary school at present asthe main object of research. These include “Hanyu” written in People’s Republic of China,“Xiaoxue Huawen” written in collaboration between Singapore and People’s Republic of China,“Hao Xuesheng Huawen” written in collaboration between Singapore and Indonesia and“Mandarin Dasar” written in Indonesia.This thesis is divided into four chapters. Spesific research contents are as follows:The first chapter is Introduction. This introduction includes an explanation of thebackground and the significance of the topic choice and also conducts a comprehensive analysisrelated to this thesis. We then define the research object and also illustrate the analyzing methodsimply.The second chapter is about the condition of Chinese teaching in Indonesia’s primaryschool. This chapter includes the types of primary schools, condition of teachers, condition ofstudents and analyzes the usage condition of Chinese textbooks in Indonesia.The third chapter is the comparison of the four sets of Chinese textbooks. This chapterfocuses on the comparative and exhaustive study of the various aspects concerning the structureof the textbooks, the theme and the style of the text, the number and the level of new words, thenumber and the level of grammar and also the design of exercise.The fourth chapter is about the overall evaluation of the four sets textbooks and suggestionsfor the compilation of Chinese textbooks in Indonesia. Based on the result of study, wesummarize the strengths and weaknesses of the four Chinese textbooks. Moreover, we providesome suggestions for the compilation of new Chinese textbooks in Indonesia.
