Speechreading as an activity to get the visual language of information, plays a very important role in the rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children. It can help hearing-imp-aired children to understand teachers’ and classmates’ ideas in integrated education, especially help them better integrate into mainstream society. Overseas research on speechreading of hearing-impaired children started earlier, research has included visual elements, words, sentences and essay.While,systematic study on speechreading in our co-untry started later relatively. And the research is still mostly limited to visual elements. On the basis of the speechreading study home and abroad, through four experiments, experimentâ… (coding),experiment â…¡ (experimental feedback), experiment â…¢ (Chinese score) and experiment â…£(the time of hearing loss) to explore the speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese character of hearing-impaired children.As in linguistics, a character says a syllable, therefore, in this paper, character and syllable are sometimes used interchangeably for expressing needs.The experiments’ results showed that:(1)The speechreading recognition and underst-anding of Chinese character of hearing-impaired children are different,on the correct rate,hearing-impaired children are good at identifing Chinese character by speechreading.(2)Under the experimental feedback, hearing-impaired children have higher accuracy and show faster response on speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese charac-ter.(3)Chinese code plays a important role in the ability of the speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese character of hearing-impaired children.The higher Chinese code,the better performance on the ability of the speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese character.(4) The time of hearing loss affect the ability of the speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese character of hearing-impaired children.Hearing-impaired children who became hearing-impaired children before they learned language are good at speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese character.(5) Syllables as vowel rhyme abdominal contents, namely the visibility of syllable rhyme belly affect hearing-impaired children speechreading recognition and understanding of Chinese character.Direction and content of further research in future include:(1) Expanding research extent from the visual elements, syllables to words to sentences and essay.(2) Comparing hearing-impaired children’s speechreading ability in audiovisual conditions and visual conditions(3) The initials and tone of Chinese syllables should taking into account when analysis the lipreading ability of children with hearing impairments.(4) Increase the number of subjects of hearing-impaired children who get hearing loss before and after learning language.(5) The single subject study of hearing-impaired children speechread-ing ability should Should be strengthened. |
