Higher vocational education that is an important type of the higher education in China, and it is on a mission that cultivates high-skilled talents needed by the first line of production, construction, service and management. Future career transition and lifelong development of students must be considered in the process of talents cultivating of higher vocational education. Learning ability has become a fundamental core competence of students in higher vocational colleges. Research on students’learning ability is an important premise to realize evaluation and training of learning ability, and improve the quality of teaching and talent in higher vocational colleges.From the learning situation and the level of learning ability, higher vocational students are weak in learning. Compared with thestudents of general university, their learning motive, learningobjectives and learning ability are relatively weak. The learningability of higher vocational students needs to be researchedsystematically and scientifically. Based on the national socialscience fund research project named of Research on LearningAbility Evaluation and Training of Higher Vocational CollegeStudents in China, firstly, the paper uses the questionnaire onhigher vocational students’ learning ability to investigate teachersand students who are from many demonstrative highervocational colleges in China. From the perspectives of bothteachers and students, we find the conclusion that the Learningability level of higher vocational students is in middle or upper levelin our country. In the meantime, according to the learning abilityscore descending order, the surveyed students will be divided intothree levels—higher group (9.66%), medium (89.99%) and lowergroup (0.35%)—by using Critical Ratio. And it can draw onexperience that is in the process of cultivating learning ability ofhigher group students to cultivate learning ability of the studentswho are in medium or lower group. Secondly, aiming at the existingproblem of students’ learning ability, learning advanced researchresults on learning sciences at home and abroad, and combining with the present situation of the higher vocational education andthe talent’s capability required by employers, the authorspecifically formulates a series of strategies that will be used tocultivate learning ability of higher vocational students. Finally,taking the higher vocational nursing profession of Linfen vocationaland technical college as a case, I try to cultivate students’ learningability by adopting various flexible teaching methods and providingrich learning resources and E-learning platform. And it hasgot good effects. At the same time, it has verified the effectivenessof the cultivating strategies, and has laid a good foundation forfurther training students’ learning ability of higher vocationalcolleges.
