A Study On The Development Of Academic Graduate Students’ Research Capacity

With the development of both academic graduate education and professional graduate education, the graduate education system of our country is improving. Academic graduate education advanced earlier so that it has a greater influence in the history of the graduate education in the world. Although important change is being taken place in the pattern of graduate education,developing research capacity still should be given the priority in the academic graduate education. It is not only the mission of the academic graduate education, but also the requirement of national science and technology development.The dimensions of this survey on academic graduate students’research capacity include literature collection and processing capability; logical thinking ability; ability to find and solve problems; critical ability; essay writing ability.After analyzing the survey data, this study found that:1.The development of the academic graduate students’ research capacity is not good, and research capacity satisfaction is not high.2. There are differences in the development of research capacity among different groups of graduate students. Firstly, the research capacity of academic graduate students in both grade two and grade three are better than that of the academic graduate students in grade one, and the research capacity of the graduate students in grade two is the best. Secondly, the literature collection and processing capacity of the academic graduate students in natural sciences are better than that of the academic graduate in humanities, social sciences and engineering, while the essay writing ability of the academic graduate students in natural sciences, humanities and social sciences are better than that of the academic graduate students in engineering. Finally, the research capacity of the academic graduate students who have participated in research project or published papers are better than that of the academic graduate students who have not.3. The academic graduate students who have a better performance in the logical thinking ability, critical ability and essay writing ability have a higher satisfaction on the research capacity. The influence of the logical thinking ability is strongest compared with other research abilities. Therefore, universities should establish the correct training objective of the academic graduate students in order to improve the academic graduate students’ research capacity. In addition, universities should also formulate a reasonable teaching plan and provide a good research environment for academic graduate students. Meanwhile, the tutors’ guidance needs to be sufficient, targeted and developmental. Last but not least, the academic graduate students need to enhance learning initiative and the independence of research.
