| Among many of the basic elements of language, word is one of the most important. As is stated in the English Curriculum Standard for Senior Middle Schools, it’s of vital importance to develop English learner’s learning abilities. But in reality, in class, teachers pay more attention to the input of the knowledge rather than the cultivation of students’abilities. Some students, even the teachers did not recognize the relationship between English learning strategies and the academic achievements. Not to mention the awareness of the importance of learning strategies. In view of this, the author thinks that: it is necessary to do a research based on the senior high school students, to help the students enlarge their vocabulary and finally, improve their academic achievements.In this study, the author makes full use of various analysis methods, For example: the literature analysis method, questionnaire survey method, interviews and qualitative and quantitative research method. Based on existing research at home and abroad, combined with the statistical software SPSS17.0, take Dalian Railway High School students as an example to discuss the relationship between the English vocabulary learning strategies and English achievements. Through the research, the author discovers:(1) the high school students’ English vocabulary learning strategy has significant positive correlation with the academic achievements.(2) the most effective learning strategy is "when I learn English, I will combine the old with new knowledge";"I try not to translate everything word by word".(3) boy’s vocabulary learning strategy is generally less than girls.(4) high-achievers usually use the following vocabulary learning strategies:"I put enough time in studying English and make a schedule"." Use visual images to understand and remember new verbal information." The difference between high achievement group and low achievement group is that high achievement group is much better at using different vocabulary learning strategies. |
