With the development of vocational education and the enrollment expansion, thequantity of the vocational students has increased, however, the quality of the studentshas declined year by year. The significant difference in learning levels among studentsbrings more difficulties in teaching and management in vocational schools. Because ofthe weak learning basis, the lack of interest in learning, English teaching becomesmuch more difficult. Therefore, English teaching in vocational schools should adoptthe multi-level teaching according to the students’ actual ability, level and languageproficiency. It can stimulate the students’ enthusiasm for learning. Students on eachlevel are able to make great progress in learning ability, and improve academicperformance. This thesis is based on action research method to explore the multi-level Englishteaching in vocational schools. Based on "the zone of proximal development" theoryand the "multiple intelligences" theory, teaching objectives are designed differently forstudents of different levels, various teaching methods and tactics should be adopted inthe course of teaching, and different homework is assigned for each level. Also in theaspect of assessment, process evaluation and dynamic administration are the key points.Teachers are the main body of action research. Through the classroom observation, teachers can find the practical problems and difficulties in teaching, and adjustteaching methods effectively to make a good solution. Teachers’ reflection to theteaching will help them to sum up the experience and correct the mistakes, give a morecomprehensive understanding of the teaching practice, and improve the teachers’control ability of the class.Questionnaires, interviews, classroom observation and results comparison areused in this action research. Through the contrast before and after the research, it canbe concluded that multi-level English teaching can help students rebuildself-confidence in study, arouse their initiative and enthusiasm, gradually developstudents’ learning ability and improve their academic performance. Multi-level Englishteaching can also provide harmonious relationship between teachers and students, and create effective class teaching.
