| Since the new Curriculum Reform, local geography began to be valued as an important partof the local geography.“Compulsory Education Geography curriculum standards†put the localgeography as a compulsory course with the other three parts. They constitute the content ofcompulsory geography curriculum framework. There are not requirements of local geographyteaching in high school, but the activities are related to local geography. Exploring and utilizinglocal geography curriculum resources has important practical significance of education. Not onlyto improve the professional quality of teachers, improve teaching methods, but also can stimulatestudents’ interest in geography, develop the students’ ability of geography, promote thecomprehensive development of students. It’s necessary to study on exploring and utilizing localgeography course resources based on the New Curriculum Standards. However, due to the lowlevel of education and teachers’ professional qualities, Development and utilization of localgeography curriculum resources was in a relatively lagging state. So, the paper studied the Statusand problems of the development and utilization of Tongling City.This paper mainly used the questionnaire survey, combining literature research andinterview. At first, the paper discussed the background, the importance and necessity, the purposeand significance of the exploring and utilizing of local geography and the content and methods ofthe research of the paper. Then the concept of local geography and curriculum resources weredefined, and the paper discusses the theoretical basis for the exploring and utilizing of localgeography. Questionnaire survey found some problems: First, leaders do not pay attention.Second, the teachers do nothing. Third, the students do not understand. Fourth, it’s not fullyexplored. The paper found solutions to the problems. Principles of exploring and the items andpatterns of utilizing which should be noted, had been proposed on interpretation of the conceptof the new curriculum standards. the principles include geographical nature, local nature, science nature, practicality, targeted and teachers’ subjectivity. The patterns include interspersed teaching,opening a dedicated local geography curriculum and conducting comprehensive practicalactivities. Finally, the paper discussed the characteristics and classification of local geographycurriculum resources, the content selection of curriculum and the writing of teaching material ofTongling. Also, the cases have been designed for Case Method and Inquiry-based teaching. |
