Adult higher education is an important part of China’s higher education system.Because of various reasons in some specific historical periods, it has provided manyopportunities for the unemployed and incumbents who lost higher educationopportunities, to make promotions and raises, to make further progress, to change jobs.Adult higher education turned out a lot of talents for social undertakings andeducational cause, making great contributions for China. After enter the beginning ofnew century, the development of adult higher education fell into recession: teachingquality seems to get worse, and has a bad prospect among our theorists who thinkadult higher education is no longer necessary and valuable, it had finished itshistorical mission. But in the face of such internal and external “troubles”, adulthigher education is still alive, it still has room for survival. The root cause for thisproblem is students. Through research this group can investigate the connotation ofthis question.Education is a kind of investment, the investment of adult higher education attheir own expenses is a clearly activity which used for looking forward futureinvestment profits. Because it meets the demands of the market, the adult highereducation still has vitality. This paper analyze higher education investment of studentsto get cost-benefit data, In order to analyze the cost of students, the paper designed acost-benefit questionnaire in Hunan province. Aimed at the cost-benefit calculation ofstudents after2009. Finally through the comparison of costs and revenues, analyzeswhether the student’s gains outstrip cost investment, whether has investment value.The analysis showed that personal earnings of students in adult higher education hasmore benefit than personal cost, the investment has value. This also verify why adulthigher education is still has market in such terrible external and internal situation.Finally, author put forward rational suggestions for the government, schools andstudents.This paper is the cost-benefit analysis of student’s personal investment in adulthigher education.
